Mirror Maze is a new puzzle game from Assyria Game Studios, a puzzler with a unique reflective twist: Your player piece is placed at the beginning of a maze and your task is to navigate your way to the finish point – avoiding all contact with the blocks that have been placed in the way. I bet your saying to yourself “Wow, that sounds simple!’ If so, then you’re totally wrong…

You see, they have added a unique, yet simply brilliant twist. Your player piece is mirrored at the end of the maze. The mirrored piece moves along as you control the main piece, mirroring every move that piece make. This proves for some great hair pulling, screaming, and punching your fists into the air moments. Yet it proves, so insanely addictive, that I have hardly put the game down since playing it.

As you progress through the many, many levels on offer (36 in total), not only do you have blocks to contend with, you also find warp gates and a host of other surprises waiting for you. The whole package is represented with bright vivid colours, with nice simple graphics. The player pieces resemble coloured marbles.

Controls are nice and simple, you just drag the player piece with your finger, which moves both the pieces just remember to watch both of them, if you don’t you soon find yourself hitting a wall. However sometimes it can feel that your not in total control of the game, as you struggle to get to the end, as you hit the last part a sudden slip of the hand and bang. As the other piece goes flying into the block, the game ends. You sit there wondering if it was you or whether the game has a vendetta against you.

A special mention must be made for the relaxing almost hypnotic background music. The music stays with you long after you exit the game, as well. There you sit, concentrating on something completely different, when you suddenly realise that for no reason at all – you’re humming the main tune to yourself, like you would a good TV theme tune. This really does make the whole package sublime, yes the controls sometimes seem to be against you, but everything else fits just so right that you soon forget that and persevere. Then you suddenly pass the level without truly thinking about it.

Mirror Maze is one brilliant puzzle game, original and taxing. Perfect for those little journeys where you just want a quick addictive game to play, such as bus or train journeys. It looks and sounds great and for a brilliant price to match, this is one game you just can’t ignore.

5/5
