July marked one of the saddest deaths in music history. Michael Jackson passed away due to cardiac arrest – all the jokes stopped, no more media attacks – we all remembered him as he was.
If there’s one way to pay tribute to the star, it is to belt out one of their biggest hits in a rhythm action game. You can sing to either ABC or I Want You Back, and watch the young Michael and his siblings do their “thang”. Of course there are complicated melodies and fast lyrics, but it’s all part of the fun!
Michael Jackson and his siblings may be one of the selling points for this game, but there are a lot more golden classics to crow to as well. Hits such as “What Becomes Of A Broken Heart” by Jimmy Ruffin or The Commodores’ classic “Easy”. I won’t name out the whole tracklist, but these are some of the gems.
Not only does the game come with a great tracklist and idea, but it also comes with a sparkly new “Motown Records” theme, with a catchy and cool background music. The voice activation feature makes its return, and makes it even easier to navigate the menu. It’s mistakes can get frustrating though, but these were rare. And of course at a “Singstar Party” containing alcohol, only one can wonder how it would work after the party goers are “intoxicated”.
Of course there is the legacy side of things – Motown Records has a unique sound. My main concern was whether this unique sound would work as a Singstar game. I wasn’t disappointed at all! The songs were like no other Singstar games, yet they were easily some of the most fun songs to sing! I thoroughly enjoyed this game and will recommend it to the following:
If you’re a middle-aged man, who loves classics – this is the Singstar game for you, if you’re a younger female – wait for Singstar: Take That. If you’re a young male, or very manly: buy Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
